Ben Quilty reveals the scope and energy of Quilty’s engagements during two decades of impassioned art making, including the artist’s intimate portraits, his sombre reflections on injustice and displacement and his evocations of haunted Australian landscapes.
Coinciding with the Quilty exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW, AGSA and the Queensland Art Gallery (QAGOMA), his work follows social and political events, from the refugee crisis to the social history of Australia.
The book includes essays by Lisa Slade and Justin Paton, and a foreword by Richard Flanagan. Aboriginal elder Frank Young introduces a section which documents work when Ben Quilty worked alongside Indigenous community members from the APY Lands.
