Publishing with Piper Press

Piper Press is a small independent arts press with over 35 years experience. We have a strong reputation for commitment to wide distribution and long-term visibility of the books we publish.

Piper Press titles are distributed to bookshops, gallery and museum shops, libraries and schools across Australia and New Zealand with our distributor NewSouth. In addition our titles are available internationally.

When considering submissions, we believe in books that add important dialogue to the cultural landscape and have a strong audience. We manage the full publishing process thoughtfully, with attention to the audience, book format, paper quality, demand and logistics to ensure viability. We support editorial, design, and printing stages to a high quality. We take care of marketing all titles, and guiding your copyright and ISBN requirements. 

Submissions

We are a small company and focus on selected categories. If you have a manuscript in the following areas, we invite you to submit. We have also carefully outlined the categories that we don't publish in.

Non-fiction categories of interest

• • Artist monographs on emerging or established artists held in Australian state, national or commercial collections and/or International collections. Artists may be those practicing in any or several mediums such as painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, mixed-media, cinema, design etc. 
  • Artist memoirs by established artists held in Australian state, national or commercial collections and/or International collections. Artists may be those practicing in any or several mediums such as painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, mixed-media, cinema, design etc.
  • Architectural and design histories, monographs and architecture memoirs.
  • Travel, history, landscape and housing with an art, architecture, or design POV manuscripts.
  • Art, architecture, design, photography reference which are not text books.
  • Museum, gallery, exhibition, catalogue publications.
    
  • Film, video and theatrical illustrated histories, memoirs, monographs.
  • Stories of sociocultural, creative and historic interest including translations.

Please note, we don't publish magazines or image-only books ('coffee table books'). Submissions should include your CV, an excerpt of the manuscript or the manuscript in PDF draft. Please indicate the type of publishing model you are expecting or seeking.
