Painted Landscape: Across Australia from Bush to Coast
Amber Creswell Bell
A Painted Landscape surveys fifty contemporary artists working in a variety of media and depicting varied aspects of the Australian landscape.
The works are presented in chapters on the bush, mountains, the outback, cities and suburbia.
Artists include Elizabeth Cummings, Rick Amor, John Olsen, Ken Done, Mavis Ngalametta, Euan Macleod and Ildiko Kovacs.
The author writes that these artists, “are creating a rich and exciting vision of Australia’s remarkable landscapes. This is Australia in the 21st century through a specifically creative lens. Artistic styles, visual language and motivations are as broad as this sprawling country; and the visions they paint are refracted through very different imaginations. Together these fifty artists paint a vivid image of the incredible diversity of landscapes that make up this vast continent.”
